This is an incredibly rare and original vintage 1959 US one sheet for the Disney fairytale classic 'Sleeping Beauty' based on the 1697 story by Charles Perrault. Sleeping Beauty was the first animated film to be photographed in the Super Technirama 70 widescreen process, as well as the second full-length animated feature film to be filmed in anamorphic widescreen, following Disney's Lady and the Tramp four years earlier. This poster features the 35mm stamp which signifies the posters use for the screenings of the film only in 35mm - whilst hidden under the linen restoration, it gives this poster a unique history.
Plot: Filled with jealousy, the evil witch Maleficent (Eleanor Audley) curses Princess Aurora (Mary Costa) to die on her 16th birthday. Thanks to Aurora's guardian fairies (Verna Felton, Barbara Jo Allen, Barbara Luddy), she only falls into a deep sleep that can be ended with a kiss from her betrothed, Prince Phillip (Bill Shirley). To prevent Phillip from rescuing Aurora, Maleficent kidnaps and imprisons him. The good fairies are the last hope to free Phillip so that he can awaken Aurora.
Year: 1959
Size: 27 x 41 inches (plus minor linen edging)
Condition: Very Good to Excellent (C7) condition, fully restored on linen. Has some staining damage top right of poster - see later image of true poster.
